You Don't Need a New Year to Start

We have a strange habit of waiting for a specific date to make a change.
January 1st feels like the perfect time to start getting fit. A new year, a fresh start and a new set of goals. But why wait until January when you could start today?
You don't need a Monday. You don't need a new month. You don't need a new year.
You can start on a random Tuesday in August.
September Is a Mini Reset
For a lot of people, September naturally feels like a fresh start.
The summer holidays are coming to an end, the kids are going back to school, normal working routines return and life starts to settle back into a familiar rhythm. After weeks of holidays, BBQs, late nights and a less structured routine, September can be the perfect opportunity to reset your habits.
You don't have to wait until January to make a change.
September can be your January.
Don't Wait for the Perfect Time
There will always be a reason to wait.
You might have a holiday coming up, a busy week at work, a birthday, a wedding or another commitment that makes you think, "I'll start after that."
But there will always be something.
If you keep waiting for life to become completely quiet before you prioritise your health, you could be waiting forever.
The perfect time doesn't really exist. You simply have to choose a time that works for you and start.
You Don't Have to Fix Everything at Once
Starting doesn't mean completely changing your lifestyle overnight.
You don't need to suddenly eat perfectly, train six times a week and get eight hours of sleep every night.
Start with something manageable.
Maybe it's committing to two or three classes each week. Maybe it's getting back into a regular sleep routine or making a few better choices with your food.
Small changes that you can maintain are far more valuable than a perfect plan that lasts two weeks.
What If You Started Now?
Imagine starting CrossFit in September and consistently attending two or three classes every week.
By the time January arrives, you wouldn't be starting your fitness journey. You'd already have four months of training behind you.
You'd have learned new movements, built strength, improved your fitness and developed a routine that has become part of your life.
While everyone else is making their New Year's resolutions, you'd already be well on your way.
Don't Wait for Motivation
You don't need to feel completely ready before you start.
Motivation is unreliable, and waiting until you feel motivated can mean waiting a very long time. Often, motivation comes after you start seeing progress rather than before.
Once you begin feeling stronger, moving better and enjoying the process, continuing becomes much easier.
Start Where You Are
Maybe you've never been to a CrossFit class before.
Maybe you used to train but haven't exercised for years.
Maybe you've spent the summer enjoying yourself and your routine has disappeared completely.
It doesn't matter.
You don't need to be fit before you start. You don't need to know how to do the movements. You don't need to have everything figured out.
That's what the coaches are there for.
September Could Be Your Fresh Start
At CrossFit Shenley, we love this time of year because it's a natural opportunity to get back into a routine.
The summer is over, normal life is returning and it's a great time to put your health back on the priority list.
So don't wait for January.
Don't wait for Monday.
Don't wait until you're fitter.
Start on a random Tuesday in September.
Your future self will be glad you did.
