I'm Not a Gym Person. Is CrossFit Really for Me?

“I’m just not a gym person.”

We hear it all the time.
Maybe you've tried a gym before and hated it. Maybe you don't know what to do when you walk through the door. Or maybe you just don't like the idea of spending your evenings lifting weights on your own.
That's okay.
You don't have to be a gym person to benefit from exercise.
Maybe You Just Haven't Found the Right Environment
Walking into a big gym with hundreds of pieces of equipment can be intimidating.
You have to decide what to train. You have to figure out how to use the equipment. You have to motivate yourself. And sometimes it can feel like everyone else knows exactly what they're doing except you.
That's not how we want CrossFit Shenley to feel.
You walk through the door and your coach tells you what you're doing.
You don't need to plan the workout.
You don't need to know the movements.
You don't need to wonder whether you're doing it right.
We've got you.
You Don't Need to Love Exercise
You might never wake up thinking, “I can't wait to do burpees today.”
That's fine.
You don't need to love every workout.
What you might start enjoying is how you feel afterwards.
You might enjoy getting stronger. You might enjoy having more energy. You might enjoy noticing that something that used to leave you out of breath doesn't anymore.
And you might start enjoying the people you train with.
You Can Start Exactly Where You Are
You don't need to get fit before you join.
You don't need to lose weight first.
You don't need to know how to squat, deadlift or do a pull-up.
You certainly don't need to be the fittest person in the room.
Our job is to meet you where you are and help you progress from there.
Everyone has a starting point.
It's Only a Few Hours a Week
You don't have to live at the gym.
Three one-hour classes a week is enough to make a huge difference.
That's a tiny amount of your week, but it can have a massive impact on how you feel for the rest of it.
You can still have your weekends. Go on holiday. Go out for dinner. Spend time with your family. Enjoy your life.
Training should fit into your life.
It shouldn't take it over.
Maybe You're More of a Gym Person Than You Think
You don't have to call yourself a fitness fanatic.
You don't need to wear gym clothes everywhere you go.
You don't need to know what a “Fran” or a “clean and jerk” is.
You just need to be willing to give it a go.
Because sometimes you don't hate exercise.
You just hate doing it on your own, not knowing what you're doing and feeling like you don't belong.
That's something we can change.
Maybe CrossFit isn't for everyone. But it might be for you.
