You Don't Have to Enjoy Every Workout

Should you enjoy exercise?

We think so. But that doesn't mean you have to love every workout.
There will be days when you're excited to train, days when you're tired, and days when you'd much rather stay on the sofa. Some workouts will leave you feeling incredible, while others will leave you wondering why you signed up in the first place.
That's completely normal.
Exercise Is Sometimes Supposed to Be Hard
If every workout felt easy and comfortable, you probably wouldn't be getting much better.
Training is designed to challenge you. Sometimes that means your lungs are working hard, your muscles are tired, and you're counting down the final few minutes of the session.
You don't necessarily have to enjoy the discomfort while you're experiencing it.
You can still enjoy what that discomfort is helping you achieve.
Enjoying Exercise Isn't About Loving Every Minute
Think about other things that are good for you.
You probably don't enjoy every healthy meal you eat. You don't enjoy every early morning or every busy day at work. But that doesn't mean those things aren't valuable.
Exercise is similar.
You might not love every movement, every workout or every training session, but you can enjoy getting stronger, improving your fitness, learning new skills and seeing what your body is capable of.
Sometimes You Just Need to Turn Up
There will be days when motivation isn't there.
You've had a long day at work. You're tired. The weather is awful and the sofa looks far more appealing than the gym.
Those are the days when discipline matters.
You don't need to feel motivated to train. Sometimes you just need to get yourself through the door.
And quite often, once you start moving and get involved with the class, you'll be glad you came.
The Reward Comes After
One of the best things about exercise is how you feel afterwards.
You might not have wanted to train beforehand, but you leave feeling like you've achieved something. You've done something positive for yourself, moved your body and invested in your health.
That feeling is one of the reasons people keep coming back.
The workout might have been hard, but the result was worth it.
Find Exercise You Don't Hate
There's also an important difference between not enjoying every workout and hating exercise altogether.
If you genuinely hate running, you don't have to become a runner.
If you hate spending an hour on a treadmill, find something else.
There are countless ways to exercise, and finding something you enjoy makes it much easier to stay consistent.
For many people, that enjoyment comes from the community, the coaching, the variety and the feeling of getting better.
Enjoy the Journey, Not Just the Result
Exercise shouldn't only be about what you look like at the end.
You should be able to enjoy the process of becoming stronger, fitter and healthier.
Celebrate the small wins. Your first pull-up. A new personal best. Completing a workout you couldn't finish six months ago. Feeling fitter walking up the stairs.
Those moments are what make the journey rewarding.
At CrossFit Shenley
We don't expect you to love every workout.
Some will be challenging. Some will be uncomfortable. Some might even be the workouts you complain about for the rest of the day.
But we want you to enjoy being here.
Enjoy the people around you. Enjoy getting stronger. Enjoy learning new things. Enjoy seeing your progress and being part of a community that wants you to succeed.
Because exercise doesn't have to be something you force yourself to do forever.
You don't have to enjoy every workout. But you should enjoy what exercise gives you.
