What is the point of CrossFit?
The answer is different for everyone.
For one person, CrossFit might be about losing 50kg, changing their lifestyle, and completely transforming their health. For someone else, it might be about competing in the sport, pushing their body to its limits, and seeing how far they can take their performance.
For 65-year-old Barbora, it might simply be about getting stronger and healthier so she can live long enough to see her grandchildren grow up. For 30-year-old Michael, it might be about having the fitness and energy to keep up with his kids. For someone else, CrossFit might be part of rebuilding their life while fighting addiction and finding a positive community around them.
There isn't one reason to do CrossFit.
Everyone Has Their Own Goal
One of the most beautiful things about CrossFit is that your goal doesn't have to look like anyone else's.
You don't need to want to compete. You don't need to lift enormous weights. You don't need to lose weight. You don't even need to care about getting a faster workout time.
Maybe you simply want to feel better.
Maybe you want to be stronger.
Maybe you want to improve your health, build confidence, meet new people, or prove to yourself that you can do something you never thought possible.
Whatever your reason, it matters.
All Shapes, Sizes and Abilities
Walk into a CrossFit gym and you'll see people who look completely different from one another.
You'll see young and old, beginners and experienced athletes, people losing weight and people trying to gain muscle, people training for competitions and people simply trying to stay active.
And yet, we're all doing CrossFit.
That's because the workout can be adapted to the person.
One person might perform a movement exactly as prescribed. Another might use a lighter weight, a different variation, or a simpler movement. The workouts might look slightly different, but we're all working towards the same thing: becoming better versions of ourselves.
We Don't All Have to Want the Same Thing
This is where CrossFit can be different from many other forms of exercise.
You don't have to fit into a particular mould to belong.
The competitive athlete and the complete beginner can train in the same class. They can work alongside each other, encourage each other, and celebrate each other's achievements.
The person lifting 100kg and the person lifting 30kg can both have an equally important personal victory.
Because your score isn't the most important thing.
Your reason for being there is.
We Come Together for Something Bigger
Despite having completely different goals, there's something powerful about working towards something alongside other people.
You turn up together.
You warm up together.
You struggle through the workout together.
You celebrate the small victories together.
Someone might be chasing their first pull-up while someone else is chasing a competition qualifying score. Both people understand what it means to work hard, face something difficult, and keep showing up.
That's what creates the community.
So, What Is the Point of CrossFit?
The point of CrossFit isn't to make everyone look the same, move the same, or achieve the same thing.
It's to give people a place where they can work towards their version of better health and fitness.
For some, that's changing their entire life.
For others, it's staying independent as they get older.
For some, it's becoming a competitive athlete.
For others, it's simply having enough energy to play with their children.
And for someone else, it might be the first positive step they've taken in years.
There is no wrong answer.
At CrossFit Shenley, we don't care what your reason is. We care that you have one, and that we're able to help you work towards it.
Different goals. Different abilities. Different lives.
One community, working towards something together.
