Getting Off the Sofa Is Often the Hardest Part

Sometimes the hardest part of getting fit isn't the workout.
It's getting off the sofa.

It's making the decision to put your trainers on, leave the house and actually walk through the doors of a gym. And if you've never been to a gym before, or you haven't trained for a long time, that first step can feel pretty intimidating.
You might be nervous about what people will think. You might worry that you're going to be the least fit person in the room or that everyone will be watching you.
But the reality is very different.
Nobody Is Watching You
When you walk into a gym, it's easy to feel like everyone is looking at you.
You imagine people noticing what you're wearing, how much weight you're lifting or whether you know what you're doing. You might even picture people pointing and laughing because you're struggling through a workout.
But that's almost never what's happening.
The person next to you is probably concentrating on their own workout. They're thinking about their technique, their breathing, their next movement or trying to beat their own previous score.
Nobody is standing around waiting for you to make a mistake.
Everyone Was New Once
Every experienced person in the gym had a first day.
They've all had movements they couldn't do, weights they couldn't lift and workouts that completely humbled them. They didn't walk through the doors already knowing everything.
They started somewhere.
And that's exactly what we expect from you.
You don't need to arrive fit. You don't need to know how to do CrossFit. You don't need to be strong or confident.
You just need to turn up.
The First Step Is a Big Deal
We understand that walking through the doors for the first time can take courage.
That's why at CrossFit Shenley, we're genuinely happy when someone takes that first step.
We're not looking at you thinking about what you can't do. We're thinking about what we can help you achieve.
We'll show you what to do, help you with the movements, adapt the workout to your ability and make sure you feel comfortable.
You won't be left wondering what you're supposed to be doing.
You'll Soon Wonder What You Were Worried About
The funny thing is that the fear is often much bigger before you start than it is once you're actually there.
You walk through the doors, meet the coaches, meet the other members and get through your first workout.
Then you realise something.
It wasn't nearly as scary as you thought it was going to be.
And after a few weeks, the gym isn't somewhere intimidating anymore. It's somewhere you know, somewhere you're comfortable and somewhere you look forward to coming.
We Love Seeing People Start Again
Maybe you're starting for the first time.
Maybe you used to train years ago and life got in the way.
Maybe you've spent the last few years putting your health on the back burner and you've finally decided that it's time to do something about it.
Wherever you're starting from, we're happy you're here.
At CrossFit Shenley, we want you to feel welcomed from the moment you walk through the door. Our coaches are here to guide you, and our community is here to support you.
You don't have to impress anyone.
You don't have to keep up with everyone else.
You just have to take the first step.
Getting off the sofa might be the hardest part.
We'll take care of the rest.
