CrossFit Has So Many Movements. Where Do I Start?

One of the things that makes CrossFit so good can also make it feel overwhelming.

There are squats, deadlifts, cleans, snatches, pull-ups, handstands, burpees, box jumps, kettlebells, gymnastics, running, rowing and a whole lot more.
If you're new to CrossFit, it can be easy to look at all of that and think, “Where on earth do I start?”
And even if you've been doing CrossFit for a couple of years, you can still have movements that you don't really understand or know how to improve.
That's exactly why coaching matters.
That's Why the On-Ramp Works
You don't need to walk through the door already knowing how to do everything.
You don't even need to know what half the movements are.
Our On-Ramp gives you the foundations. We can teach you the movements, explain why we're doing them and give you the confidence to walk into a normal class knowing what to expect.
You learn the basics before we start asking you to put everything together.
That's Why an Hour With a Coach Works
When you come to a class at CrossFit Shenley, you're not left to figure it out yourself.
You've got a qualified coach there for the entire session.
We explain the movements. We demonstrate them. We watch you move. We make adjustments. We scale exercises when you need to and help you progress when you're ready.
You don't need to spend hours researching what programme you should follow or watching YouTube videos trying to work out if you're doing something correctly.
That's our job.
That's Why Experience Matters
Good coaching isn't just knowing what a movement looks like.
It's knowing what to look for.
It's recognising when someone needs to slow down, change their technique, use a different variation or add a little more weight.
It's understanding that the person who has been training for ten years shouldn't necessarily be doing the same thing as someone who has been training for ten weeks.
Experience allows us to make those decisions.
That's Why Attention to Detail Matters
Small things add up.
The position of your feet. Your grip. Your breathing. Your tempo. Your range of motion. How you move through a lift.
Sometimes one small adjustment can completely change how a movement feels.
That's why we pay attention.
We want you to understand what you're doing, not just copy a movement because the person next to you is doing it.
You Don't Need to Know Where to Start
You just need to start.
You don't need to know every CrossFit movement before joining CrossFit.
You don't need to be fit.
You don't need to be strong.
And you definitely don't need to figure it all out yourself.
That's what your coaches are there for.
At CrossFit Shenley, our job is to meet you where you are, help you understand what you're doing and give you the tools to keep getting better.
There are a lot of movements in CrossFit.
You don't have to learn them all at once.
